The products we use are modelled on a natural extract from the pyrethrum daisy (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium), which has been recognised for thousands of years for its insect-killing properties. The ancient Chinese used the dried flowers to kill fleas and lice. Scientists have since isolated the active ingredient and, with the aid of modern synthesis, improved its effectiveness while retaining the inherent safety of the original.
These products are selective. They are deadly to insects, but warm-blooded animals break them down, and they are biodegradable in the environment.
